LET ME HELP YOU!

Hi! I know from having done thousands of these shows, some great guidelines to follow to make sure this is a wonderful time and that all goes great. Experience is the best teacher, but sometimes the lessons are too costly. Better you should learn from my experiences rather than making your own mistakes! :-)

There is only one birthday party a year in your childs' life and you want to get it right!

So follow these tips and all will go extra great:

-Whatever time you invite everyone for, don't expect everyone to be there for at least 45 minutes to an hour or more later. It doesn't matter whether they're coming from across the street or across town. People can never get to parties anywhere near close to the time they're invited. They will say they had soccer practice, the kids had karate, etc. I know from long experience to expect them to dribble in. Yes, they're your friends and family and you've known them for years, but trust me that some will be late!

-Because the weather even in beautiful sunny California can be unpredictable; the best shows are always indoors. If in a park, choose a park with an indoor recreation room. The kids can run around and play outside before and afterward the show, but call people inside to eat and see the magic show. If it is a beautiful day, it's not a problem that the show is indoors, but if for any reason the weather isn't absolutely perfect, it is a definite problem if you planned it for outdoors. Too hot and too sunny is just as bad as cold and wind! Kids can't sit still for a show if the sun is beating down on their heads or if a breeze is giving them a chill. It may have rained the night before and the ground may be damp. There could be snakes and rodents! You never know...

-Try to feed the kids before the show, but save the birthday cake for afterwards. Some kids can be more than a handful, and with something to eat on their stomachs they won't be so hyper. A belly with some real food in it will calm them down and keep them from fidgeting during the show. BUT SAVE THE CANDY AND THE PINATA UNTIL AFTERWARDS! You know what all that sugar does! :-)

-IMPORTANT: Inflatable bounce houses are great, but they are such a kid magnet that it's almst impossible to do a good show if the bounce house is within sight of where the magic show is going to be held. No kid wants to sit still and watch a show when he could be jumping up and down in a bounce house! Plus the loud noise of the air blower makes it difficult for the kids to focus on the show. You're paying good money for the show, you want the kids to enjoy it and appreciate it. Please plan ahead to have the show out of sight and out of hearing of the bounce house. The kids can go back to bouncing after the show. Have the show indoors and then they can play on the bounce outside afterwards.

-SWIMMING PARTIES: Everything I said above about bounce houses also applies to swimming pools. There's a reason the law classifies swimming pools as an "attractive nuisance"! It's almst impossible to do a good show if the pool is within sight of where the magic show is going to be held. No kid wants to sit still and watch a show on a hot day when he could be splashing and swimming! Again, you're paying good money for the show, you want the kids to enjoy it and appreciate it. Please plan ahead to have the show out of sight of the pool. They need to get out of the water for a little while so they don't get all pruny. The kids can go back to swimming after the show. Have the show indoors and then they can go swimming afterwards.

-If you'd like, I can signal you when my show is just about to end and you can get the birthday cake ready. When I finish, I'll lead the kids in singing Happy Birthday and you can have the birthday child blow out the candles and serve the cake and open presents then, or let the kids run around and play some more at this point.

-Two and half to three hours or so from whatever time you invited everyone for, it could be time for everyone to go home. People will praise you for having such a great party if you follow these simple guidelines and you will have warm wonderful memories to last a lifetime.
